there's a snail in my garden...

well, there was - he's currently in the kitchen with the sacrificed beetroot leaf he was lounging about on, while i contemplate his fate. so...what does an animal-loving vegetarian do with an interloper like this?

where not to build a nest (and snow peas!)

i was afraid this looked like a recipe for disaster when we spied a nest by the pool last week. mama bird, however, didn't seem at all concerned about the precarious position she had selected.

so there was little surprise but a great deal of sadness that met the discovery of a fallen nest and two broken eggs...

(apparently, along with all the other things i thought i would never do, i have become a birdwatcher - albeit a rather inadvertent/passive/opportunistic one...this was a blue headed honeyeater i believe)

there was some new life found today to balance the nest tragedy - the first snow peas of the season!

(p.s. - apologies to anyone who isn't already acquainted with the fabulousness of spoonflower for the absence of a proper explanation before, and for anything that didn't make sense etc. got a bit carried away in the adrenalin of it all!)

an ode to lettuce

one of my big joys at the moment is wandering

to the little courtyard,

to my community of lettuce pots

and picking leaves on demand...

fresh as fresh can be.

gardening for the soul

made some little presents for the babies today...just in case they ever forget who they are (and yes, before you ask, i am going ever so slightly around the bend at the moment).

been nurturing the gardening goddess within (deep within, if past efforts are anything to go by) today. now have some baby lettuces - for when we finally get through the current crop - plus spinach and fennel. also some dill and zucchini seeds donated by one of my helpful horticultural consultants, which i will attempt to grow into seedlings. wish me luck!

love the feeling of watching something become what it was always meant to be, growing, evolving...
