things can only get better!

this is the first crafty adventure i have had in a long long time - and i figure that things really can only get better!  let's just call it 'organic', shall we?

i'm quite a fan of these tree pendants (well, anything tree-ish for that matter), and had some jewelry-making supplies lurking in a cupboard that hadn't been put to use properly yet.  it seemed a good project to try and ease me back into the creative realm...something that looked a little forgiving, not too complicated and that i could do sitting in bed.  the best tutorial i found was by camille sharon -  she's an engaging, fun and natural teacher.

i decided to start out with torched copper wire - the torching gives a 'rainbow' sort of effect - simply because it is much cheaper than silver alternatives.  (put it this way:  i anticipated some failures.)   the amethyst chips used came from a bracelet a friend gave me which fell apart a few years ago now.   i'm going send her the reincarnated version - figuring it will at least give her a laugh.

  1. Lovely piece of work! I like it.

Years and years ago I was in Lusaka, the capital of Zambia with my family, the city sits on quartz rock and we could pick amethysts from the crushed rock in the driveway of our house. True! (Although they were not high quality.)

  3. I actually really like it, the only part I would change is the hook bit - the bit that curls into the circle... if there was a way to straighten it to connect to the trunk of the tree and then adorn it to make it look like another branch I think you'd have perfection.

It's pretty amazing for a first go. Well done sweets.

  5. lee lee - afraid all it means is that i can attempt to follow instructions, but thankyou!

marzi, same bit i'd change too actually - there are lots of variations out there (and easy to just adapt as you become more adept and confident anyway i would think). it's pretty rough 'in the flesh'. i'm going to look at that as giving me lots of room for improvement though.

  6. its like a jacaranda. like its wobbly feel & rooty bits at the bottom. nice and organic. a tree design could look gorgeous for the design you are going to do for your mums table?

  7. true les, it is like a jacaranda. actually already have the idea for the table though...exactly the same thing mum had in her mind came to me - and spooked her a little in the process i think! (agree though that this kind of tree could be beautiful for a table)

  8. It's a lovely piece...so happy for you that you were able to make it. I need to start trying to make things again...I used to be so creative. I loved making jewelry, drawing, painting, writing, taking photos. The CFS/ME seems to have sucked all the creativity out of me...I just feel flat, tired, braindead. Do you ever feel that way? I love your photos from your June post, too. I hope you've been able to get out since then.

  9. thanks for stopping by and commenting katy. i can relate to what you say about the creativity being sucked out of you, although for me it's usually more pain that does it than anything else. exhaustion and braindeadedness (new word) definitely contribute too though. i would love to be able to carry through with all the ideas that swirl around in my head.

(unfortunately no outings since june, last months have been a rather unmitigated disaster - gory details on my other blog!)
